Information technology, income inequality and economic growth in sub-Saharan African countries

In this paper, the dynamic relationship between ICT, income inequality and economic growth in sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries is examined during period 2004–2014. Three ICT three indicators were used to examine linkage. The include internet penetration, mobile phone penetration fixed broadband subscription, while Gini coefficient, Atkinson index Palma ratio. Using Generalised Method of Moments (GMM) estimation technique, study found that, on whole, an increase development unconditionally leads under study. also that threshold level inequality, which should not be exceeded order for positive impact sustained, depends proxy indicator. Specifically, have a sustained growth, i) coefficient specification exceed 0.520; ii) 0.531 0.560, respectively; iii) ratio subscriptions 0.551, 0.633 4.664, respectively. Policy implications are discussed.
